Cacao Ceremony and Ecstatic Dance with DJ Whitt
Mountain Town Music & Wild Women Tribe Presents:
Cacao Ceremony and Ecstatic Dance with DJ Whitt.
Join us for an evening of ceremony and dance, Sunday, December 11th, at Enlighten Wellness, 6:30-8:30pm.
This experience will begin with a cacao ceremony, guided by Sofia Mileti, director of Mountain Town Music's wellness initiative program. Sofia is both a Park City native and a native of Guatemala, where she has been immersed over several years in ancient Mayan traditions. This particular ceremony is crafted as a unique offering, using Sofia's own spiritual path as the template and her own voice and background will guide the tone and rhythm of the ceremony. Sofia is bringing the cacao from Guatemala herself and preparing it for this experience alone. Ceremony grade cacao as a plant medicine is a natural stimulant and offers ecstatic dance participants an alternative to alcohol or other drugs . It also improves blood flow to the brain and heart and is shown to support mental health by reducing anxiety and stress.
After we drink our sacred cacao we dance to the whimsical, rhythmic set that DJ Whitt has crafted for this special night! Ecstatic dance is a form of dance in which the dancers, sometimes without the need to follow specific steps, abandon themselves to the rhythm and move freely as the music takes them, leading to a feeling of ecstasy. The effects of ecstatic dance begin with ecstasy itself, which may be experienced in differing degrees. Dancers are described as feeling connected to others, and to their own emotions. The dance serves as a form of meditation, helping people to cope with stress.
Whitney has been working as a professional DJ throughout Mexico in locations such as Tulum, Puerto Escondido and Holbox. She recently moved back to Park City, her home town where she played for the opening of the Canyons Ski Resort as well as various other gigs. She has also lead many Ecstatic Dance workshops and studied intensive contact improv. Her intentions are to weave together music, meditation, dance and the healing arts to create an uplifting container of “high vibes” for Ecstatic Dance. This series is a continuation of the Sound Healing Series collaboration that Mountain Town Music presented together with Wild Women Tribe last spring. The goal of this series is to raise awareness on mental health and offer a space for community-activated healing. Proceeds from this sound healing event will go to provide free sound healing events for Summit County's youth, elderly, and at risk populations.
Wild Women Tribe connects likeminded women in transformational experiences in the outdoors though daylong workshops called WANDERS and transformational retreats.
