The Smudge
The Smudge
The Smudge are a power trio rock band. Currently, operating out of Salt Lake City, Utah. However, the members roots of origin span the United States with thousands of miles and almost an equal amount of Americana rock influencing their virtuoso, ecclectic and iconic sound and vibe.
Aidan Triantafillou on electric guitar brings a classic, yet, fresh and innovative approach that critics have compared his musical prowess and liking to idolistic names like Page, Hendrix, Garcia, Knopfler and Vaughn. His peers describe his creativity as genius and obsessive. Triantafillou, a Salt Lake native may be the integral piece of the puzzle that makes the Salt Lake City sound and Mountain Town Music the next focus of the music industry. Having already achieved acclaimed success with Lee Refugee, Sarah DeGraw and Lovely Noughts, not to mention, his stellar performances on Jim Bone and the Dig’s, City by a Dead Lake. Aidan No Name is maturing into a force of guitar wizardry and song writing connectivity that draws the audience into a love and adoration of his talent, performance, life philosophy, humility, presence and spirituality that leaves his fans unsatiated and satisfied with that night’s performance.
Ray Rosales from Los Angeles California has the reputation of always being the resident professional on every stage he encounters. Rosales is masterful at weaving the percussion and rhythms of any genre with the lead players and vocal performances of every frontman/frontwoman that are fortunate enough to have his stylistic, solid, crafty and legendary bass groove and lead or vocal harmonies bless whatever project he decides to choose. Also, he is a black belt that brings a zen and serenity to every project. I once heard a rock star from the Bay Area in Northern California say, “Ray Rosales is like Dusty Hill playing for Los Lobos or Bootsy playing for the Stones.” Currently, Master Rosales is best known for his soulful and powerful performances with Los Hellcaminos and Rage Against the Supremes.
Lucky for Triantafillou and Rosales, Jim Bone happens to be a huge fan of both artists. Bone, originally from the Southern United States. Spittin’ distance from Mountain View, Arkansas(The folk music Capital of the world). The acclaimed singer/songwriter performed bluegrass and folk at hootenanny’s throughout the South from the earliest age. Jimbo performed for the first time playing piano and singing at the age of two. He wrote his first song at the age of five. After moving to Louisiana Jim Bone embraced the second-line drums and horns of New Orleans. Due to Bone’s early childhood in the ghetto of Little Rock, he was drawn to the multitudes of culture in the South and embraced the Cajun natives of the swamps and their Zydeco while emulating the vocal arrangements of the Jackson 5 and Motown from the North with his best friends. Bone moved to San Francisco in the late 70’s, early 80’s and immersed himself into the cultures of punk, funk and psychedelic later joining the reggae hard hippy group, Little Women. Later Jim cofounded the Jackmormons with Jerry Joseph from Little Women. With Joseph, a songwriting icon himself, Jim Bone found himself at home performing 250 shows a year behind the drum kit. Fifteen years later he started the first classic rock bluegrass band, Purdymouth. Bone continued to tour extensively helping bands like the String Cheese Incident and Leftover Salmon carve their way. Today, Bone performs nationally with Jim Bone and the Dig. Yet, he finds himself behind the kit, again as a songwriting/singing/drummer. Rub your belly, pat your head and check out the Smudge! They’re out of this world and embedded deep in the roots of Americana Rock ‘n’ Roll.
