Zero Summers
The Zero Summers make indie rock with soul that will move your body and your heart. Our infectious mix of ambient indie-pop and danceable alt rock draws heavily on british pop, post-punk and hardcore influences. Songs lyrics oscillate between profound prose and emotional-yet-catchy hooks.
The band's lead vocalist and songwriter, David Higbee, found early inspiration in Neil Young melodies and taught himself to play guitar on a cheap Yamaha nylon-string using his mom's beaten up Bob Dylan songbook. In high school and college he playing in bands that covered songs by 90's alt rock powerhouses like U2, Oingo Boingo, Radiohead and Counting Crows not to mention obscure UK bands like The Smiths, The Cure, and Delamitri (a roots rock band from Scotland). His worldview and songwriting have been further shaped by studying world literature and languages and living abroad for nearly a decade (in Japan and Argentina).
When David returned to the U.S., he started writing songs that are a fusion all of his international musical and literary influences. He eventually met Amy Jo, the band's cellist, while networking with local musicians. She also plays keys, chimes, and sings, and has a degree in music from Weber State University.
Amy and Dave set to find musicians with enough creativity and vision and finall found Ryke, who plays bass guitar and a handful of other instruments, and Sean Morris, the bands multitasking drummer and percussionist. Then Sean's wife, a talented vocalist in her own right, joined to band to become their fifth member. The Zero Summers will continue to evolve until it just can't get any better....
Most of The Zero Summers' songs revolve around a mix of post-modern and avant-garde themes that are personal to it's members: Going the distance, not giving up dreams, personal loss, learning to take life easy, disconnection and connection, spirituality and love in the modern world.
