About The Proper Way
The Proper Way
The Proper Way was formed when two multi-instrumentalists happened to bump into each other at a music festival a couple of years back. Tupelo, Mississippi native, Scott Rogers, wrapped his solo set and stuck around to listen to Park City, Utah-raised, Shane Osguthorpe. After Shane's set was wrapped, festival organizers informed him that the next act was a no-show and asked him to keep playing to prevent an empty stage. Having heard Scott's set and recognizing a kindred musical soul, he invited him back on stage.
As the duo concluded their impromptu set, a video crew pulled them aside and asked if they would be willing to play and tape a song. The producer asked, How long have you guys been playing together? Knowing that the producer was expecting an answer along the lines of a couple of decades, Shane responded, Since 19[insert long pause while pretending to remember a distant year} or 20 minutes ago.
The Proper Way's sound comes from a lifetime of immersion in a multitude of musical genres, resulting in a simultaneous juxtaposition of tight and loose. On any given night, they'll play a dozen songs that neither has ever played with the other, but that each musician is intimately familiar with. Even the songs they play nightly are never played the same way twice. A song that was a rocking guitar/banjo song at the last gig may become a mournful piano/mandolin lament at the next.
These guys can read a room like few other musicians. Based on the vibe they perceive, they play it how they feel it and any good musician will tell you, that's The Proper Way."
